The second night we travel to the 18th century where Akim has a run in with Carmen, performed by Samara Cohen aka Princess Lockerooo, the Gypsy woman from opera written by Bizet. This gives way to an exciting battle of Opera Vs. Hip Hop. Supported by dancers that depict the time period in costumes, but reflect the urban styles of dance, such us body popping, breaking, body balancing to locking and whacking. These are a few of the many encounters Akim has on his journey. This night is sure to be a knock out.
]]>This night takes us back to the original essence of Hip Hop, where the music inspires the words that activate the dance, resulting in a kaleidoscopic image of urban culture reclaimed.
A young MC in the mid 80’s, Akim discovered Hip Hop in Africa and coming to NY to experience the free style cyphers of the streets. Akim sets off on a Hip Hop odyssey around the world, resulting in beatbox mixing with the ‘”Kecak”, aka “Monkey chant.” The kecak is a Balinese performance ritual that consists of rapid vocal interlocking rhythms. By mixing with beatbox we create a provocative cultural and time traveling experience. And the journey continues…
